Porth Wen Approach

Picture
Position   53°25’N 004°24’W

Approach

From west, pass inshore of Middle Mouse, and turn into centre of bay when it opens. Beware strong tidal set across entrance. Anchor with white farmhouse and brickworks in line, in 5m. Occasional overfalls off entrance in wind over tide conditions. From east, look out for ruined brickworks and turn to port rapidly before tide sweeps craft past entrance.

Dangers

Many drying rocks to east side and extending rocky outcrops from beach. West side of bay is clean outshore of southern extremity of brickworks (disused). Tide sweeps round bay but is weak inshore of transit between brickworks and house on eastern hillside.

Shelter

From east through south to west with some swell in westerlies. Very exposed to northerlies. Generally good holding on sand, but some weed patches.

Lights & Marks

Brickworks (disused) are conspicuous.  No lights or navigation marks.
